Latham, I continue to be uplifted, inspired, and delighted by the example of your big project and how it's shaping the experience you and your son are having of yourselves and of your life. Big projects do indeed provide unparalleled learning opportunities, as you said, you just need to start. I was talking with James Bailey yesterday who used a phrase I hadn't heard before. He said sometimes you have to jump off the high dive and invent the water on the way down.
Thanks Rick. I quite like that phrase from James. I prefer it to building the airplane in flight, even though that one is maybe more directly relevant.
I'm always grateful for your support in this undertaking
Jealous! Inspired. So pleased for the budding relationship embodied in the phrase "I saw him grow up in an instance.
Maybe going round the world was our version of you building your plane. 20 years on, we are privately revisiting our journey, and I find my children sharing the tales with those around them .. like your son, "sharing the plane". I got a call yesterday, "Mum do you have a link to your book? My friend is asking for it."
PS. I'm catching up with these posts via the app. Do you no longer email them out?
So so rad and sooo inspiring. Lots of ppl talk about "once in a lifetime" 'bucket-list' jive but THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE in real life! You should sell a kit w/ a kid, a kit plane, and your book about this whole thing once you're done ;)
Now that would be fun. I'm getting the itch to take on an even bigger project once this is done. My boy and I might be signing up for more than we can handle
Fathers like you should be cloned. The world needs more like you.
Larry. Thank you so much for the wonderful complement. I'm just doing what I can to give my kids what the world never gave me.

Really fascinating both in the psychology of learning and in the details of building the plane. (What's a cleco?)
And I so appreciate your focus on quality.
Thank you Drake. Those are all lessons I keep learning.
A cleco is a temporary fastener that holds the aluminum pieces together so they can be built. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleco_(fastener)
Beautiful, Latham. So many gifts here — for you and your son, and also for us readers. Thank you for bringing us along.
Thank you for your support Julie. I so appreciate it.
If you never write another word for this Substack, I would be more than satisfied because this post says it all. Outstanding!
That ownership of craft is so important. Fun to watch this come together.
